A Can’t-Miss Military Homecoming

LITTLE FALLS, Minn. – What a military homecoming!  Cooper Waldvogel loves his mom more than military protocol. And Facebook loves him for it. The 3-year-old boy could not wait for his mom, whom he hadn’t seen for 9 months, to be released from this military formation on her return from Afghanistan with her National Guard unit. Ignoring military protocol, Cooper ran to jump into his mom’s arms as she stood in formation, waiting to be released.

Last December, Cooper’s dad returned from his own tour in Afghanistan. Because of the overlap in their military deployments, Cooper’s mom and dad hadn’t seen each other in 19 months. Thankfully, they have family nearby to help take care of Cooper and provide him with stability. But in Cooper’s short life, he and his mom and dad have all been together only about half the time.

Sadly, this situation is not uncommon for dual-military parents and their kids.  Many of our military children are having to learn to live for significant periods of their lives without either parent at home.  I’m not sure whether it would be harder on the parent or the child in that situation.

God Bless our military families, and bring all our service members home safely.  The endure so much separation, and sacrifice so much, so that the rest of us can live in relative safety and freedom.  Please be sure to express your gratitude whenever you have the opportunity.  Most service members will tell you they’re “just doing their jobs,” but they are remarkable men and women who have earned our respect and appreciation.  You may embarrass them by thanking them, but inwardly, they appreciate your expression of gratitude.

Happy Constitution Day!

Canada Revoking Terrorist Passports

Canada Revoking Terrorist Passports

Revoke passports of Americans who leave to join terrorist organizations. In a move that we believe should be followed in Washington,

the [Canadian] government has begun invalidating the passports of Canadians who have left to join extremist groups in Syria and Iraq, Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander revealed in an interview on Friday.

The minister told the National Post his department had also revoked the passports of several Canadians who had not yet left the country but who had intended to travel to the volatile region to enlist as foreign fighters.

He would not disclose the number of passports Citizenship and Immigration Canada had revoked over the conflict but said there were “multiple cases.” The government says about 30 Canadians are with extremist groups in Syria and 130 are active elsewhere.

The action means Canadian fighters in Syria and Iraq may effectively be stranded there. Their passports are no longer valid and therefore cannot be used to return to Canada. Nor could they be used to travel elsewhere.

Read the entire story at the National Post.

Way to go, Canada! Is anyone in Washington listening?

Apparently, our government knows of a number of Americans who have left the country to join various extremists groups. So why not implement one of two solutions:

  • Follow Canada’s lead and simply revoke their passports, leaving them stranded in hell; or
  • Flag the passports and have them arrested as soon as they try to re-enter the US, charge them with treason and let them rot in jail.

There are pros and cons of each. I kind of like the idea of making them “men without a country,” so that they can’t go anywhere other than where they are now. I mean, seriously, you chose to go there, dude, so what do you have to complain about? You left this country to go join our enemies and fight against us. We don’t want you back! And we don’t want to pay the bill to house, feed and clothe you for the rest of your miserable, pathetic life, either.

On the other hand, U.S. citizens cannot be deprived of property or liberty without due process of law (at least that’s what our Constitution promises), so we would have to give these dirtbags their day in court before we could permanently revoke their passports. But I see no reason why they couldn’t be put into a “suspended” status, to stop these guys when they try to go into civilized countries. We all know it’s easy to create fake passports, so that wouldn’t necessarily keep them from traveling to other countries to carry out their attacks, but it would flag them so they would be stopped trying to enter the U.S.

We know the government uses facial recognition software, so in addition to flagging their passports and adding them to the no-fly list, upload their passport photos, and share them via Interpol so that they’re arrested anywhere they try to board an airplane with either their real American passport, or a different, fake passport.

This extremist organization represents a serious threat to America and real Americans. Our government cannot be allowed to sit on its hands and ignore the problem. Or try to distract us with global warming “climate change.”

White House Medal of Honor Ceremony

In this rare look inside the White House, we get a chance to see some of what goes into the preparation for a White House Medal of Honor ceremony. The Medal of Honor is the highest military honor awarded by the United States of America. Corporal Kyle Carpenter, USMC, received the MOH for his actions in Afghanistan, when he quickly moved toward a live grenade in an effort to shield his fellow Marine.

As the two Marines manned a rooftop security position in Helmand province, the enemy launched a daytime attack. When Carpenter realized that a live grenade had landed inside their sandbagged position, he immediately moved toward it to shield his partner. Carpenter absorbed most of the blast with his body. Both Marines survived the attack, but with major injuries. Carpenter lost his right eye and most of his teeth, and his jaw and right arm were shattered. He has undergone dozens of surgeries as a result of his injuries.

The White House Medal of Honor ceremony is usually attended by other living Medal of Honor recipients, by members of the honoree’s unit and his family members, and other distinguished guests.

Despite the celebration of their heroism, the presentation is often difficult for the recipient. As the award citation is read aloud, he is required to relive what is likely one of the worst days of his life. But these men are our nation’s heroes, and they deserve to be recognized as such.

Thank you, Cpl Carpenter, for your exemplary service to our nation. May you serve as an example for generations coming after you. Semper Fi, Marine.

White House Locked Down After Fence Jumper

The White House was evacuated Friday evening after a fence jumper managed to make his way to the building. Early reports are unclear as to exactly how he managed to get so close to the building before being caught.

The President and his family were in no danger from the incident. They had departed earlier on Marine One, the President’s helicopter, for the Presidential retreat at Camp David. With ISIS making direct threats against the White House, the intrusion understandably caused serious concern for the Secret Service.  This is the first time an intruder has actually made it into the building, prompting a thorough of security by the Secret Service.

Happy Constitution Day!

September 17th is Constitution Day. Do you know what rights are guaranteed to you by our Constitution? Well, actually, they’re set forth in the Constitution, and guaranteed to you by the men and women who wear the uniform of the United States, and are willing to fight to defend them. Without those patriots, all we have is a very old piece of paper.

If you don’t know what rights are listed there, how will you know if they’re infringed? Constitution Day seems a good time for a review. Read our Constitution.

They are NOT, as President Obama called them, “privileges.” (Although that gives you a pretty good idea how much – or little – respect he has for them, and how interested he is in securing or upholding them.) Rather, they are “inalienable RIGHTS,” endowed by our Creator, as set forth in another of our founding documents, the Declaration of Independence.

Watch this entertaining video for a crash course about the early political scene in the United States. You’ll see many similarities to today!

On September 17, 1787, our nation’s founding fathers met to sign the document they had drafted in the preceding weeks of the Constitutional Convention.

Referencing the system of government outlined and established in this Constitution, Benjamin Franklin wrote that he was amazed “to find [it] approaching so near to perfection as it does; and I think it will astonish our enemies.”

Obama Recognizes ‘Privileges’ Secured by Constitution

In a comment that perhaps reveals more than he would like it to, Obama’s Constitution Day remarks talk about the “privileges” granted by our Constitution, instead of the RIGHTS our Founding Fathers wrote there to secure them for posterity.

This distinction, while it may not seem important to some, is crucial to understanding how the President views our Constitution. Clearly, viewing them as “privileges” would mean he sees the document as merely “advisory,” explaining why he often ignores it, instead of recognizing it as the Supreme Law of the Land, which it has always been.

As an attorney who has studied the Constitution, it scares me to think that this man has taught this view of our Constitution to hundreds, maybe thousands, of today’s lawyers. He calls himself a Constitutional Law professor, yet his ideas about the meaning of the document fly in the face of the writers’ intent.

Obama Recognizes ‘Privileges’ Secured by Constitution

Constitution Day didn’t go without notice at the White House. Barack Obama issued a statement Wednesday celebrating the day by saying, ““Our Constitution reflects the values we cherish as a people and the ideals we strive for as a society. It secures the privileges we enjoy as citizens.”

Correction: The Constitution secures our rights. But for Obama to call them “privileges” is revealing of his statist purposes. He views executive power as something to be wielded to bring goodies justice to favored constituencies the oppressed. And to belittle our rights as merely privileges, he implies they can be taken away. That’s a dangerous and
